Ceramics collection

The Ceramics and Porcelain Collection includes more than 4,000 objects and sets by more than 150 artists. The collection includes unique applied art pieces as well as examples of industrial art from the beginning of the last century up until the present day. The earliest examples include reconstructed objects from the Põltsamaa porcelain factory, which operated at the end of the 18th century as well as vases by the painter Julie Hagen-Schwarz from the 19th century. The ceramics department was opened at the State School of Arts and Crafts in 1923. In addition to several student works, the work of sculptor Jaan Koort as well as examples of Nikolai Langebraun’s Porcelain Painting Workshop and several other small pre-war workshops are represented. Unique work by Estonian professional ceramicists from the 1950s until the present day make up the largest part of the collection that is still growing. In addition, the collection of the museum includes a wide range of examples of products by the ceramic and porcelain painting studio of the Art Products Factory.
