On March 29, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of designer Bruno Tomberg’s birth. To mark the occasion, the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design has produced a catalogue for the exhibition “Bruno Tomberg. Inventing Design.”
The catalogue accompanies the exhibition of the same name, which gives an overview of the diversity of Bruno Tomberg’s work and activities over nearly six decades, revealing for the first time his role as a designer and educator and bringing to the public a wealth of previously unknown and unprecedented material.
The catalogue is the first publication to comprehensively present Bruno Tomberg’s work and oeuvre. It presents his role as an interior architect, exhibition designer, educator, artist, and thinker in the field. The catalogue also includes a translation of an in-depth interview with Tomberg, first published in 1967 in the Czech-language magazine Domov. The catalogue contains nearly 500 illustrations.
Bruno Tomberg (1925-2021) was an interior architect, designer, artist, educator, and design advocate in Estonia during its intensive development in the early 1960s. Through his creative, pedagogical and administrative work, the story of the development of Estonian applied art and design is told.
You can find the catalogue at our museum bookstore or in our online shop!
